How can we help?

Splitting expenses with friends should not be a hassle. If something does not add up, you will find answers to the questions we get most often below. If you cannot find what you are looking for, write to us and we will reply as soon as we can.

Do I need to sign up to join a group?

Not at all. All you need is the link sent by whoever created the group: open it, pick the name you want to appear under and you are in. A Google account is only needed to create a group.

How do I invite the others?

Open your group and tap “Invite friends”: we give you a link to paste into your chat. Remember that anyone with that link can join, so only send it to the people you want in the group.

I changed phone and cannot see my group any more. How do I get it back?

No problem, you have lost nothing. Reopen the group invite link and, instead of typing a new name, pick yours from the ones already there: your expenses and balances come right back. If you no longer have the link, ask the person who created the group to send it again.

How do I split an expense?

When you add it, you say who paid and how it is split: equally, by shares or with an exact amount for each person. Before saving you see a preview of what each person owes, so you can check that everything adds up.

Why does one person sometimes get a cent more than another?

Because not every amount divides exactly: €10 between three people is €3.33 each, with one cent left over. That leftover cent does not vanish and is not hidden: you see it marked, and we always assign it in the same order so nobody is favoured.

I entered an expense wrongly. Can I fix it?

Of course, you can edit it. You cannot delete it, though: every change stays in the group history so everyone can see what was modified. This is deliberate, to avoid arguments like “but it did not say that before”.

An expense shows as “pending”: what does that mean?

Some groups ask for new expenses to be approved by the others. Until someone reviews them they stay pending, but not forever: after 7 days they become active on their own.

How do I record that I have paid back a debt?

You record the repayment from the balances page. For it to count, the other person has to confirm it too, so nobody finds a debt cleared without knowing. Remember that Splito does not move money: it only keeps track of who owes what to whom.

Can I get my expenses in a spreadsheet?

Yes: from the group page choose “Export spreadsheet (CSV)” and open it with Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.

I want you to delete my data. What do I do?

Write to us at the address next to this list telling us the group and the name you use, and we will reply within a month. In the privacy policy you will find the details of what we keep and why.
